For years now, I've been committed to only ever owning Lenovo laptops. Having two kids and cats, and being clumsy myself, my laptops get knocked off of tables onto tile floors way more often than they should. It happened twice to my last Lenovo Thinkpad, and it kept working. (After one incident, the screen went dead for three days before blinking back on to say, "Hey, what's up?" as if nothing had happened, moments before I bought a replacement.) Last I heard, many Lenovo models were drop-tested for 3 feet, so... perfect.
Then today, my hands were full as I was getting into my car. I set my BLACK Lenovo laptop on the roof of my BLACK Corolla, packed everything else into the car... and then got in the car and drove off. Maybe a half a mile later, going at least 45 miles per hour on a main road, I heard a loud SMACK, looked in the rear view, and saw something black and rectangular tumbling on the roadside. Being kind of dim, I didn't realize what it was, but to my credit, I did think: "Hey, that seems like it came from my car. Did I set something on the roof and forget about it? (Still, I didn't make the connection. Yeah, I said dim.) "I better turn around and check that out."
So I made the next turn and went back, pulled over and got out. Only right before picking up the laptop did I make the connection. I'm not someone who panics. I just got it and walked back to the car, vaguely thinking about what problems it would cause if it were dead, and how much money my stupidity might have cost me.
In the car, I looked at it: lid covered with scratches. I opened it up: SCREEN INTACT! Okay, so there's hope. I pulled into a parking lot and pressed the power button two or three times, impatiently. The screen lit up, then went off again. DUH, that's what happens when you press a power button more than once. So I was a little more patient, pressed it once... and sure enough, up comes the login screen.
I put it in the seat and drove home, where some normal use has borne out the initial conclusion: cosmetic damage only. So, in summary: my Lenovo FLEX touchscreen laptop flew off the roof of my car at 45 miles per hour, and I'm currently using it to write this post about it.
Like I said, I was already a committed Lenovo customer yesterday. Today, I really know why!
EDIT: I suppose I had better add at this point that I'm just a regular idiot and in no way a paid spokesperson for Lenovo!
